NBC News is the news division of the American broadcast television(ABT) network NBC. The division operates under the NBCUniversal News Group, a division of NBCUniversal which, in turn, is a subsidiary of Comcast. Various functions of the news division have been reported to Noah Oppenheim, president of NBC News. The first regularly scheduled American television newscast in history was produced by NBC News on February 21, 1940, anchored by Lovell Thomas (1892–1981), and aired at 6:45 p.m. It was Lowell Thomas, a television simulcast seen in New York, in front of a television camera while broadcasting NBC Network Radio. [4] In June 1940, NBC, through its flagship station in New York City, W2XBS (in 1941, now renamed WNBC Commercial WNBT), is working on Channel One, a 30¼-hour coverage of the Republican National Conference and Broadcasted live from Philadelphia. The station used a series of relays from Philadelphia to New York, and in Upper New York State, to rebel on W2XB in Shantadi (now WRGB), making it one of NBC Television's first "network" programs. Due to wartime and technical restrictions, no live telecasts of the 1944 conventions were made, although films of the events were reportedly screened the next day on the WNBT.

 

About this time, there were irregularly scheduled, semi-network newscasts originating from NBC's WNBT (WNBC) in New York City, and reportedly to WPTZ (now KYW-TV) in Philadelphia and WRGB in Schenectady, NY.
